I did not plan to write a blog post about this show, however I feel it is important to document the first floor show I have shot. I brought tickets to see Movements a while ago, however in the spare of the moment the day before the gig I asked the drummer if I could receive a photo pass for the show and fortunately he said yes. The venue was in Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff, it wasn’t sold out, but I found it difficult to move around the venue when the bands were playing.
I did not know till I was there that it would be a floor show, this meant I had no barrier to protect myself with and had to push past other to get to the front. Because of this, I have a lot of shots from the side of the stage. The area I spent most of my time was a corner behind the stage that overlooked the band and the crowd, the lights were pointed directly at me so I could use a faster shutter speed to capture the moving crowd.
The only major problem I had was the terrible lighting. During the support bands, a soft light blue light was used to spotlight the musicians. However, during the headline act, a horrible, harsh, orange light blew the members away. Because of this, my editing process involved a lot of blues to balance out the colours.
For the longest time, Movements have been a part of my life. Their powerful lyrics remind me of Casey and Real friends combined, and I am so happy I got to shoot them on their first headline tour. There are rumours of them returning to the UK in October with Knuckle Puck, and I already have plans to shoot more than one show.
